Located in Santa Cruz’s Province, Argentina, along the southern river of Lake Argentino, this city is the entrance gate to Los Glaciares National Park where the Perito Moreno Glacier and to the north the Fits Roy Massif can be found.
In El Calafate there is an international airport which allows for connections to places like Buenos Aires, making this an ideal starting or finishing point of the program.
Although the city is very small, it possesses a special charm with its architecture, which is characteristic of Patagonia Argentina. It has a main avenue where different handcraft, chocolate, outdoor clothing, and traditional clothing shops can be found, as well as excellent coffee shops and restaurants.
A diverse range of hotels are also on offer around El Calafate. From the city it is possible to take daily tours to Perito Moreno Glacier, go horse riding, visit farms and then continue to El Chaltén.
